For the cowboy the weather always seems to work against him.
It's always either too hot or too cold, too dry or too wet. When the ranch
needed a spring rain, there was not a cloud in the sky, and the wind blew all
the time. Now that it's shipping time the rains have come. When the
cowboy must work off his horse and be in the pens everything is a mess.
Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong.
Last nights storm blew the tent flap down and his bed got wet.
The coffee was cold and it rained so hard that his breakfast became a soup
before he could eat it. His saddle was wet and his horse became a champion
bronc. The cattle were all hold up in the breaks and when found, were wild
as March hares. The footing was so bad that his horse fell and was lamed.
He had to walk back to camp. The herd was gate shy and stampeded.
When they were finally penned, it was too muddy for the trucks to get in.
With his seat wet, his boots muddy, and his hat soaked, the final aggravation is
the tally book is soaked and the pencil is too hard. "It Don't
Tally"
